Meet Tyra Watkins, our rockstar IMAC 70.3 Volunteer Captain and an new triathlete! Here we go!
1. What are your race goals this season?
My race goals are to be more consistent in my workouts – train smarter, learning to swim more efficiently to reduce the amount of drag, get & stay motivated – stop starting over.
2. Best racing advice?
My best racing advice would be to master your weakest discipline – mine is the swim. It was much harder than I thought it would be learning how to swim as an adult. And I still don’t know what I’m doing but I’m working on it!
3. Favorite pre-race meal?
My favorite pre-race meal is oatmeal with craisins and bananas.
4. Do you pee on the bike?
Nope, I’m not that good YET to worry about adding a few extra minutes to my time and I’ve become very good at holding it since I think porta potties are the grossest thing ever!
5. Tell us something we should know about you.
It was hard to narrow it down with me being as awesome as I am … hahaha
I started running at the age of 44 and have completed races of all distances from 1 milers to half marathons, duathlon and now triathlon. I plan to complete a century bike ride in 2017 for American Cancer Society.
I’m brutally honest, sometimes a little too much, my family and close friends know that if they’re looking for someone to sugarcoat something then don’t ask me. I’ll always have their best interest at heart even if they may not realize it at the time.
I’m an awesome caregiver to my father in law, while training and working full time.
I get fulfillment out of helping to raise funds for nonprofit organizations as an Account Manager.
I’m my own worse critic.
My trademark saying is when running a tough race and I’m ready to give up “this some bulls*it” who’s idea was this … lol
