Definition: in a way that shows a lot of determination and a willingness to take a big risk in order to achieve something.
This is a common term you hear thrown around in various scenarios, whether it be the sports arena, conducting business, or friends simply hanging out and agreeing on an activity together. It is also one of the greatest exaggerations. Very few people know what it's like to go all in which is why people use the phrase; to hear of someone going ‘all in’ on an endeavor evokes attention and most are starved for it.
For better or worse, we have lived by this for the past 9 years. In early 2013, I cut the cord on working my regular job and set out on this journey called DelMoSports. The trajectory went straight down for a solid two years until I landed a licensing agreement with IRONMAN in October of 2015. Let me repeat that, THE TRAJECTORY OF MY BUSINESS AND MY FINANCES WENT STRAIGHT DOWN FOR TWO YEARS. Actually, have you ever looked at the weather radar and the storms are so bad they are beyond red, they're like a deep purple? Yeah, that was our situation. The only thing keeping us afloat was me waiting tables at night, that's it.
Fast forward a few years and everything is looking fine and dandy. We have successful events, a full-time staff of four and things are humming along. Enter a world-wide pandemic, mass uncertainty, political unrest, fear, and incredible unforeseen ripple effects such as supply chain shortages, social upheaval, and you have a recipe for failure... unless you're all in.
We found a way these past 20 months. We worked, we grinded, we introduced a few new events, we've stopped doing other events, but more importantly we're not just here for the ride: we are going all in for the 2022 season like never before.
What does all in look like now?
DelMoSports is making a substantial investment where it counts; our team. We are proud to bring back Denise Burgese to the team as a full-time staff member leading our Volunteer Coordination efforts, in addition to assisting in Athlete Services and Operations. Additionally, we are welcoming Eric Seggern as part of the team to lead all the supply, logistics, set up and breakdown efforts of DelMoSports and DelMoPRO. Denise and Eric make our team better in every way by allowing us to refine and focus on the most minute details to make/keep our events world class.
We're all in, folks. Our team is diligently working, on a daily basis, to create the greatest season in DelMo history. In order to do that, we have decided to make the following adjustments to our calendar:
Running Events: Times change, and with that we are no longer producing the Hops Trot 5K in Atlantic City. Our focus has been narrowed here in DelMoLand and the Hops Trot 5K does not fit our model moving forward. We are eternally grateful to the amazing humans at the Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival for the opportunity and look forward to attending in the future!
MudHen: With all of the Spring running classics returning next year (Love Run, Cherry Blossom, Boston, Broad Street, NJ Marathon, Delaware Running Classic, April Fools, and now Rock ‘n’ Roll Atlantic City) we have made the decision to alter the MudHen Brewing Co. Race Series to a one-night-only event: The MudHen Brewing Co. IPA 5K and Beer Mile Island Championships will take place on Saturday Night, April 9th. This event will start & finish at the brewery in the center of town: first with our IPA 5K, then immediately following with a limited field of Beer Mile specialists in a concert-like atmosphere. Winners of the Beer Mile will be memorialized forever at the brewery! We are extremely excited for this event and know those who love running for fun and escaping for a quick trip ‘down the Shore will appreciate the effort and memories. Registration for the MudHen Brewing Co. 5K opens on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022.
Crest Best Run Fest: With the longer distances going away in the Spring, your opportunity to run long with us is in the fall. New in 2022, we are introducing a half marathon into the Crest Best Run Fest weekend complete with a 10 Mile, 10K, 5K, Kids’ Race and Doggy Derby. Registration for the Crest Best Run Fest opens on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022.
Swims: Favorable tides and large crowds are recipes for success in the open water swimming world, thus our swims are all about America in 2022.
Crest Best Swim Fest: This year, Memorial Day Weekend will play host to the first great open water swim of 2022, happening at Sunset Lake, Wildwood Crest on Saturday, May 28th. High tide for that event is 8:06am; this means there will be ample water in the back bay for the season's first open water swim (great prep for Escape the Cape!). Registration for the Crest Best Swim Fest opens on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
DeSatnick Real Estate Poverty to Cove 2.4 Mile Open Water Swim: This event will take place on Sunday Morning, July 3rd in beautiful Victorian Cape May. New this year, we are offering bag drop for this point-to-point race and are expecting over 500 swimmers with this tide assisted "Iron-Distance" swim. We fully expect these events to attract over 1,000 swimmers to southern Cape May County and cannot wait to host you all. Registration for the Poverty to Cove 2.4 Mile Open Water Swim opens on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
Triathlons:
DeSatnick Real Estate Escape the Cape Triathlon & Open Water Classic: Are you ready for more sand in this SOLD OUT event??? Kidding, we'll keep the sand where it is... BUT... the Kids’ Fun Run is back in 2022. This always-entertaining event allows kids of all ages to take part in the event weekend... for FREE! Feel free to join the main event's waitlist HERE.
Women's Philadelphia Triathlon: New in 2022, we are incorporating the Women's Philadelphia 5K on Saturday Morning July 9th, followed by the Triathlon on July 10th. We are excited to expand the programming for this event and potentially bring more aspiring triathletes into the mix! Registration for Women’s Philadelphia Triathlon begins on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022. This event has sold out each year of its existence.
CRDA Atlantic City Triathlon: Date Change Alert! Traditionally, this event has taken place on a Saturday, but due to scheduling, this year's event will take place on Sunday, August 7th. We believe this will actually work in our athlete's favor as some have difficulties getting to Athlete Check-In on Friday for obvious reasons. Hopefully, the move to Sunday proves a great success, complete with our amazing beach finish! Registration for TRI AC opens on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
Stampone O'Brien Dilsheimer Law Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon & 5K: New in 2022, the "TRI WW" is altering our Olympic-ish race. Last year we learned having only one loop bike course for all athletes proved very helpful for our community. Additionally, by clearing the roads earlier it affords us the opportunity to bring back the extremely popular Wild Child Triathlon in 2022!!! Now, if you like going longer - you're in luck. Our new "Olympic-ish" race will feature a .75 mile ocean swim, 10 mile bike, and 10K run. So... we're taking some miles back for the bike, but adding some in the swim and run! Registration for Tri the Wildwoods opens on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
NOTE: There will be bundle pricing available for Running events (MH + CBT), Swim events (CBSF + P2C), and Triathlons (TRI AC + WW TRI) - so take advantage and save money!
There you have it. This is what 'all in' means to us. A stronger team, solid dates and changes to events and recognizing what we needed to let go in order to grow stronger - all while providing you with the energy, service, and experience which makes a DelMo race... like no other.
