Yes, I said that.
On July 11th, we produced the Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa Women's Philadelphia Duathlon Presented by Inspira Health. We had nearly 500 signed up, and of those women over 100 were competing virtually. All tallied, we had 281 women venture to West Fairmont Park to run 1 mile, bike 9 miles, and finish with a 5K run. The same crew, the same infrastructure, the same police/fire/ems presence for 281 women as opposed to over 1500 that we normally see... and we were as excited as ever.
For those that attended, thank you. At no time did we feel "Don't worry about it, there's only a few hundred athletes... it doesn't matter." NOPE. We sweat every detail in making those brave souls who participated feel like they would in a normal sell out year.
What did we learn? It was only fitting that the first large outdoor event in Philadelphia since all of "this" happened would be for women. We learned athletes love being around other athletes. We learned the energy surrounding a transition area cannot be duplicated anywhere else on the planet. We learned it's going to take us (all of us) a little bit more time to feel 'normal' again... and that's ok. We learned that no matter the size of the event, our crew will give it everything they have to make our athletes feel special... in other words... we still got it! Need proof? See this amazing video.
PS - Just under $800 was collected via Runsignup.com from WPT athletes to be donated to the Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling (BCYC) team! The BCYC program works with youth ages 12-18 across Philadelphia in building healthy habits, leadership, and independence through the sport of cycling. THANK YOU!!
Just this past weekend we executed our first triathlon at the 18th Annual Stampone O'Brien Dilsheimer Law Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon Presented by Inspira Health. We'll show you more about that event in our next newsletter!
Right around the corner is our 11th Annual CRDA Atlantic City Triathlon Presented by Inspira on August 7th with over 1200 triathletes signed up to date... that's right, athletes are beginning to feel more and more comfortable each day and that's all we can really hope for in these uncertain times. Our triathlon season will culminate with the 8th Annual DeSatnick Real Estate Escape the Cape Triathlon Presented by Inspira on August 29th with over 1200 athletes set to jump off a perfectly good boat! Registration is open if want to join in on the fun!
