Each month, an athlete is selected to be the monthly newsletter's Athlete Highlight. In honor of the MudHen IPA 5K right around the corner, we decided to highlight 2x Defending Beer Mile Champion- Justin Ehring!
Justin was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He started competing in triathlon & endurance sports when he was 11 years old which quickly became a passion of his and led him to being the youngest competitor in his first 70.3 & Ironman. He still loves every aspect of the sport and over the years has been involved in competing, triathlon event production, and has recently started his own triathlon coaching business, Oval Endurance. DelMoSports has played a big part in his triathlon experience since he met Steve back in 2016! Check out our Q&A with Justin...
1. Tell us 3 things we should know about you.
A: 1. I coach high school cross country & track. 2. Lake Placid is my favorite place to train & race. 3. I'm working on racing a marathon or Ironman in every state.
2. What is your favorite workout song?
A: It's rare if I listen to music when training but if I do... How You Remind Me by Nickelback.
3. Favorite pre-race ritual?
A: Getting to a race early enough so I don't have to rush to get ready yet somehow end up scrambling to the start line anyway.
4. What is your race mantra for 2024?
A: I'm coming off my first ever real injury /surgery from last season, this year my only focus is to enjoy the sport on the good days and bad days and be thankful for every starting line I get to.
5. What is your favorite memory from participating in the Beer Mile?
A: When the Shellbay boys went tarps off to celebrate the win in year one...yes those were my friends.
6. What is your favorite part about training for a race?
A: I love the aspect of being consistent and disciplined over a period of time. I genuinely enjoy the challenging parts of the sport...the solo swims, the 6hr long rides, running outside whether it's 10 degrees or 100 degrees. For me, its about getting comfortable while being uncomfortable.
7. What is your goal for this upcoming Beer Mile?
A: The beer mile course record will be going down this year.
