Representing the South Jersey Triathlon Club.
Each month, we sit down with a DelMoSports athlete and ask them five questions.
Meet DelMo teenage Athlete, Carlie Eckel of the South Jersey Triathlon Club.
1. What are your race goals this season?
My race goals for this year is to start competing in the Olympic distance races. The last few years of racing have inspired me and I am absolutely addicted to triathlon.
2. Best racing advice?
The best race advice is definitely to smile through the pain. While doing races always compete to your very best but live in those moments of the crowds cheering and the volunteers pushing you through it because you can feel true happiness. If you aren't smiling cheek to cheek during your races you're doing something wrong.
3. Favorite pre-race meal?
The night before the race I always pig out on a spaghetti dinner after packet pick up to really get into the mindset. The morning of is always a slice of toast and some scrambled eggs.
4. What is your race mantra?
My racing mantra is definitely “just get through this part” if you can get through the swim, you get to transition, then the bike, then transition, then run, and then win. If you push through each part confidently, you succeed in finishing with pride.
5. Tell us three things we should know about you.
Three things people should know about me are:
My first race was Escape the Cape in 2014 and I was only 14 at the time.
I consider myself an artist and I tend to express myself through it.
I totally believe in girl power because if anyone says that a girl can't do something I make sure that I do it and completely go above and beyond.
